Live Music: Kindness
Teatro Franco Parenti, Friday 17
One of the most interesting and unexpected musicians that is joining the Elita lineup is England’s Kindness, an intriguing young man that makes very good tunes indeed. He will be playing at the wonderful Teatro Franco Parenti near Porta Romana, bringing his awkward take on cool electronica and performance, but one that’s not to be missed.
DJ Set: Solomun
Fabrique, Saturday 18
If you’re looking to let off some steam then you should get yourself down to one of the many DJ nights that are going off during Design Week. Of the pick, I say Solomun is your best bet. The Bosnia and Herzegovina born DJ is known for his amazing house and deep house sets and he is sure to be putting on something very special for Milan. If you like your music deep, sexy and melodic, then you’re on to a winner with Solomun. We’ll see you there.
Party: Silent Disco
Colonne Di San Lorenzo, Friday 17
No, nor did I ever imagine that I would be suggesting that you take yourself down to Milan’s beautifully striking Colonne Di San Lorenzo for a Silent Disco, but there you have it. If it’s not your kind of thing, or you think you are too old to take part, it’s still totally worth going down to see the spectacle of up to 2000 people dancing and shouting to a party that seems to be inside their heads. Couple this with the dramatic backdrop of San Lorenzo and you’ll be in social media posting heaven. Well worth checking out.

New Zones: Zona Sant’Ambrogio
Last year we were presented with 5 Vie, which is tucked away behind Milan’s famous Via Torino. This year we are given Zona Sant’Ambrogio, nestled in one of Milan’s most historic cultural hotspots, where you’ll find the Basilica of Sant’Amborgio, the Museum of Science and Technology, and the Triennale Milano, among many others. Not only will the area highlight innovative design, it will also draw people into a district of Milan that is often overlooked as nothing more than just were ‘The Last Supper’ lives. How wrong they are. An exciting project to discover.
Food and Drink: Food Truck Fest
Zona Sant’Ambrogio, The gardens at San. Vittore 49
It also just so happens that Zona Sant’Ambrogio will be hosting the Food Truck Fest, celebrating street food throughout the duration of Design Week. It will be held in the gardens found at San Vittore 49, which will be transformed into an outside restaurant style location, with some of the best Food Trucks from all of Italy. What’s more is that the San Vittore 49 is a relatively unknown haven, rich in history and, on this occasion, full of flavour, too. Don’t miss out.
Drink and Design: Zona Ventura
Ok, you got me, this isn’t actually an event but it’s one of the nest things to do during Design Week, getting your hands on a cold beer or chilled glass of wine and wandering around the old industrial area of Milan that transforms during design week. With it’s towering grey buildings and unexpected spaces, Zona Ventura is one of the more exciting areas during this week, especially at night when all the designers that are on show, open up the wine and conversation and stories start flowing. Great fun. Ooh… and the work is worth checking out too.
