Remember BRABBU’s Blog new rubric about the 20th century best designers? Last week we wrote about Hans Wegner work. Today we will present you the modern work of Arne Jacobsen, also a Danish designer of the same period as Wegner’s.
Arne Jacobsen pushed through the landscape of Danish design and architecture for more than half the past century. The traces are still present, everywhere around us today, more than 30 years after his death.

With a relatively small studio staff, Jacobsen mastered the range from large, complex building projects to the teaspoon in his cutlery. Throughout this range lay a consideration of every detail in the total design of the building, which was the invisible force that drove him to his goals. The goal required a huge work effort: The idea may have been strong from the outset, but nevertheless appeared vague to Jacobsen, until he had worked them out and defined the design thoroughly.
As a designer, Jacobsen made prototypes for furniture, textiles, wallpaper, silverware, and other items. The cooperation between Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934, but it was in 1952 the break-through came with the Ant™. It was succeeded by the Series 7™ in 1955.
“I have no philosophy, my favourite thing is sitting in the studio.” Said Jacobsen, but definitely its pieces reflect the opposite. We would describe his design style, as modern, minimalist and also an influence of industrial design.

Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. Some of his most iconic pieces include the Egg™Chair, the Swan™Chair, the Swan™ sofa and the Series 3300™.
